Umhlanga at a glance

Umhlanga gets its name from the Zulu language and means “place of reeds” which refers to the reeds growing along the Ohlanga River, north of Umhlanga.

Umhlanga, specifically the sugar cane fields of Umhlanga Ridge, has become an investment area for developers and is getting a lot of businesses relocating from central Durban.

Due to the economic boom in the Umhlanga area, aswell as the airport located nearby, various developments are underway which will have an enormous impact on the population over the next decade, which will affect both the residential and commercial sectors of the area.
